When I first moved to South Carolina, I quickly realized that I had seriously underestimated just how hot summers can get here. ☀️🔥 If you're new to the area, trust me, splash pads are about to become your new best friend. They're the perfect way to cool off, let the kids burn off some energy, and survive those days when stepping outside feels like you will quite literally MELT!

From the charm of downtown Summerville's Doty Park to the endless family fun at Wannamaker County Park, there's truly something for everyone. Many of these locations also have nearby playgrounds, picnic areas, walking trails, and restrooms which makes a huge difference when you're spending more than an hour there. Some are even dog-friendly, so the whole family can join in, including your four-legged kids. 🐾

Before You Go, Don't Forget:

• 🧴 Plenty of sunscreen and sun hats
• 🏖️ Extra towels and a change of clothes
• 🍎 S N A C K S - because if your kids are anything like mine, this is non-negotiable 
• 👟 Water shoes, especially during those extra-hot afternoons

I also highly recommend arriving early if you can. You'll beat the crowds, snag a shady spot, and avoid the hottest part of the day. 🌳

Small, quaint, and the perfect little spot for kids to cool down and have some fun, and it’s completely FREE! 🙌

Doty Park has been a longtime favorite for local families, especially those with younger kids. Located right in the heart of downtown Summerville, it’s such an easy and fun outing for a quick play date or summer adventure.

The interactive water features are perfect for little ones, and parents will appreciate the seating, restrooms, and picnic areas nearby. Even more exciting, a brand-new playground is now OPEN! 🛝

✨ Tip: This park is more geared toward smaller children.

⭐ Ashley River Park - My Family's Favorite

If I had to choose just one, Ashley River Park would probably be it. This place truly has it all! The splash area is fantastic, but that's only the beginning. Between the massive playground, scenic walking trails, fishing spots, and beautiful open spaces, it's easy to spend an entire day here. PLUS - the Ashley River Library is right across the road. We always grab our library books and swap those on our way back home.

At just $2 per person for ages 3 and up, it's an affordable way to spend an entire day outdoors.

What I love most is that all of my kids enjoy it, even my teenagers. My son usually heads straight for the fishing areas, while my daughter is always off finding the perfect photo spot. (If you know, you know!) 📸 It's one of those rare places that genuinely keeps everyone happy.

💦 North Charleston Splash Pads

🐶 Wannamaker County Park Splash Pad

Wannamaker County Park is one of our summer staples! It's perfect for kids of all ages, and honestly, the dog splash area might be just as exciting as the kid one. 🐾

Little ones can run through the sprays while older kids explore the trails, play disc golf, or simply enjoy the park. For even more adventure, boat and bike rentals are also available for an additional fee. And if you're bringing your pup along, check out the Splash Paw! This is an off-leash water play area just for dogs. 🐕

Admission is $2 per person, and children ages 2 and under are free. 

⚠️ Good to know info: Whirlin' Waters Adventure Waterpark is located inside the park, but it requires a separate admission fee and is not included with your general park entry.

🌅 Riverfront Park

Riverfront Park feels like one of Charleston's best-kept secrets. The interactive fountain is always a hit with kids, and the waterfront views are absolutely beautiful. Plus, it's completely free! 💙

I love that there's plenty of room to spread out, whether you're planning a picnic, tossing a ball around, or simply relaxing while the kids play. The walking paths, open green spaces, and iconic pier make it a wonderful spot for an afternoon outing.

If you're looking for a fun, budget-friendly adventure that feels a little extra special, Riverfront Park is always a great choice. ✨🌴

🌊 Goose Creek Splash Pads

🌴 Central Creek Park

The Central Creek Park splash pad is such a fun summer spot for families, especially if you have kids with lots of energy to burn! ☀️💦

One thing we really loved is that the splash pad and playground areas are enclosed, which gives parents a little extra peace of mind while the kids run around and play. There are separate areas for both little kids and bigger kids, plus plenty of space to explore together. 

This park truly has a little bit of everything: Basketball courts, Volleyball area, 6 pickleball courts (3 covered!), Walking trails, Huge playground area, Lots of shade throughout the park!

We also love seeing how much of the park is ADA accessible compared to many other local parks. ❤️

This is absolutely one of those parks you’ll find yourself returning to all summer long. 🌴
